Gifts that matter
Why is it always so that when you have to find the perfect gift, you end up thinking that does this really reflect the things I want to tell when giving the gift? Gifts are tricky mostly because the gift should look like you but still be useful and yet delightful for the receiving party. Lately there has been a lot of new gift service portals opened and they offer a great solution for giving a gift that really matters and pleases the receiver. You can buy different spa treatments or courses from the service side and you can be sure that it will come in use.
I think that the best gifts there are have something to do with you building (in Finnish: rakentaminen) it with your own hands. I like to build things and lately I have been building all my gifts myself. It is also in a way relaxing that you know that there will be a ready gift that looks like you and means something to the recipient.
I have been building closets, beds, shelves, tables and all sorts of other objects. All ideas and inspiration I got when visiting the local Rautia store. It is like a gift shop for me. I see all the materials and talk to the staff and usually end up having tons of ideas for new gifts. When you start early enough, you can also build really meaningful and big gifts for the ones that really deserve it.
In my eyes, some people are either just too lazy to build anything with their own hands or then they just don’t have the right tools, materials or the knowledge needed in building things. Usually I get all of these from Rautia. I still remember when I built my first gift, a table, from the scratch and got tons of advice from the friendly staff in Rautia. I found out at that time that it isn’t so hard in the end to build things on your own and that people are really happy when they see you putting some effort into the gifts. I hope that everyone would at least give it a try because it sure isn’t that difficult and most of the time it is a lot of fun to build things yourself.
